Patient-Focused Primary Care Physiotherapy’s unique contribution to health care stems from its advanced understanding of how the body moves, what keeps it from moving well, and how to restore mobility. What Most People Don’t Know Physiotherapy’s Expanding Role In Diagnostics As medical science and technology has continued to advance, so has the profession of physiotherapy. The latest physiotherapy assessment and diagnosis techniques have proven to help isolate pain sources not shown on MRIs, X-rays, and other tests. 6 Key Ways Physiotherapy Helps Recovery •Preventing, reducing, and eliminating pain. •Managing physical impairments and disabilities. •Overcoming limits to physical activity. •Improving and maintaining functional independence. •Enhancing physical performance. •Promoting fitness, health and wellness. What Do Physiotherapists Do? (from the Canadian Physiotherapy Association) Physiotherapists assess a patient’s level of mobility, strength, endurance and other physical abilities to determine the impact of their illness or injury on their physical function, whether at work, rest or play. Physiotherapists diagnose the condition and develop a treatment plan to restore movement and reduce pain or limitations to mobility. Physiotherapists treat the condition and help the patient understand its effect on their function. Physiotherapists measure the patient’s progress regularly and adjust the treatment accordingly. They also advise the patient on how to manage their condition independently and help the patient prevent avoidable recurrences or complications. Physiotherapists can also advise you on ways to prevent potential health problems from occurring before they arise. AMS physiotherapists primarily work in 2 practice areas: orthopedics and neurology. The following are examples of the types of conditions we treat: •Back pain •Sciatica •Sprains •Tendonitis •Bursitis •Fractures •Neck pain •Arthritis •Sports injuries •Post surgical rehabilitation •Stroke rehabilitation •Balance disorders
