Massage Therapy

Massage Therapy is an effective way to enhance relaxation. It is also a beneficial technique for pain relief and injury recovery. Your registered massage therapist will customize your treatment to maximize results. Massage therapy improves circulation from “hands on” mobilization of your body’s soft tissues (i.e. muscles, skin, connective tissues or fascia, tendons, and fluids such as blood and lymphatics). Massage Therapy helps restore the natural balance of your body by direct movement of the soft tissue and the fluids in your body. One of the most beneficial aspects of massage therapy are the soothing effects of touch on the autonomic nervous system. All of our Massage Therapists are “registered”. This registration occurs after finishing an intensive training curriculum and successful completion of provincial examinations. Being registered protects you and ensures that all our therapists meet and exceed the standards put forth by the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario. Extended health care insurance plans require your massage therapist to be registered in order to be covered. Massage Therapy can help in conjunction with physiotherapy or as a stand alone treatment. Gift certificates for Massage Therapy are also available at the clinic and they make a thoughtful gift for family and friends!

Osteopathy

Osteopathy is a holistic healing process involving manual medicine. Osteopathy uses a unique hands-on approach to determine the cause of the problem by removing “blocks” which prevent your body from healing itself and resolving symptoms. At PhysioActive, we use osteopathy to provide different kinds of care depending on an individual’s needs. Whether osteopathy is helping you maintain your health, treat pains and complaints, or provide symptomatic relief, PhysioActive professionals are here to help you. Osteopathy for babies and children ~ Newborn check ~ An osteopathic newborn check-up offers an opportunity to bring your new baby into the practice as soon as you feel able, for an examination, and gentle cranial treatment. By releasing any strains from pregnancy and birth early on, we can help to reduce the chances of your baby becoming unsettled and optimize development. The sooner an osteopath is able to diagnose and treat your baby, the easier it is for the balance within the child to be restored. In these sessions your therapist will determine the underlying factors that are causing your current problem, and assess and treat your physical and mental health in accordance.

Physiotherapy

Physiotherapy is a regulated health care profession trained at evaluating, restoring and maintaining physical function. It is a distinct form of care which can be performed both in isolation or in conjunction with other types of medical management. In many cases, the causes of pain and dysfunction are obvious, but sometimes things are not so evident, especially when symptoms are inconsistent or difficult to describe. Physiotherapists can perform a wide range of tests to help locate the source of the problem and implement the appropriate treatment strategy. Acupuncture

Acupuncture has traditionally been used as a method of balancing the body’s energy by inserting needles under the skin at specific points along energy pathways (meridians), to prevent or cure diseases and/or disorders. The modern Western medical or ‘neuroanatomical’ acupuncture approach, however, recognizes that needles inserted at acupuncture points induce biochemical changes in the body, such as the release of pain relieving endorphins. A medical approach to acupuncture uses the therapist’s knowledge of anatomy and neuro-physiology in relation to your condition to guide the selection of points in contrast to the Traditional Chinese Medicine approach, which uses the meridian system. Our physiotherapists have acupuncture training from the Acupuncture Foundation of Canada Institute, a nationally recognized organization that trains already practicing health professionals in the area of acupuncture within their scope of practice. We only employ acupuncture to treat conditions that we would normally already treat using other physiotherapy approaches. At PhysioActive we practice Medical Acupuncture, the synthesis of Western Medical Science with this traditional Chinese practice. It involves the placement of very small needles in the body, often in various locations on the arms, legs and back.
