Chiropractic

What to expect on your first visit You and the chiropractor will go through a thorough health history and physical examination in order to establish a diagnosis and the cause of your pain. A customized treatment plan will be presented to you and the doctor will address any questions you may have. Once the treatment options have been discussed and your diagnosis explained to you, treatment will begin on the initial visit. Treatment The treatment plan will be tailored to your specific condition and needs. Our chiropractors take a functional approach to treatment, ensuring the biomechanical cause of the injury is addressed, not just the site of injury. Your treatment may consist of soft tissue therapy, exercise prescription, acupuncture, joint mobilization/manipulation and therapeutic modalities.

Acupuncture

Medical Acupuncture involves the use of both Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), and evidence based concepts (Medical Acupuncture) of Acupuncture in treating many types of ailments/conditions. All of our practitioners that practice Acupuncture must complete a rigorous and comprehensive program involving over 200 hours of training and education, and are certified to practice Acupuncture in Ontario. Acupuncture involves the insertion fine sterile needles into specific points on the body and may include sites far removed from the injured area. Acupuncture points are numbered and follow meridians which follow the body’s energy flow, but needles may also be inserted anatomically. Acupuncture points can represent certain organs or body parts and may be named for these. Needles can be rotated or stimulated with a current to enhance the beneficial effects. Once used, needles are disposed of in special containers. The benefits of Acupuncture are many and quite varied. Acupuncture can be used to treat such ailments related to stress, allergies, and many acute or chronic injuries. Acupuncture has been used to decrease or relieve pain, decrease inflammation, alter movement patterns, improve performance, and encourage natural healing through attaining the body’s natural state (Qi, pronounced “Chi”). It is a very safe, relaxing, and effective alternative to traditional medication.

It can be helpful for old and new problems alike, seeking to identify areas of the body that are restricted or constricted then ease those restrictions to permit normal function. Osteopathy approaches anatomy, physiology, pathology, and biomechanics as interrelated throughout the many systems of the body. Osteopathy uses gentle manual therapy to address gravity lines, reflexes and the reciprocal relationships between the somatic (musculoskeletal system) and the visceral (organ) systems. A treatment will include a thorough history, an overall physical exam, manual therapy to correct the areas of the body that are predisposing the person to the injury and finally an exercise home program to facilitate your recovery. In Ontario, osteopaths study for over 5 years and must successfully complete and defend a research study before earning the designation of Diploma of Osteopathic Manual Practice. Therapists are able to incorporate their osteopathic skills into treatments while completing the research portion of their training.
